Drake Family Vacation - Glacier Day 1

This morning we slept in (who doesn't love that on day one of vacation). Once we got up and around we hit the road to Montana!  We didn't see anything breathtaking today! Was mainly a day of travel. We did stop at standpoint city beach! I was amazed how beautiful it was and we are so close to it!!

Once we got some exploring city beach we hit the road to Montana!  To be honest it was a boring drive! We should have stopped at Kootenai Falls but it was packed with cars that we opted out!!  We got into Kallispel and went shopping for a bit, ate dinner,  and then hit the hotel pool!!

Fun weekend with friends at the Riverbank

We had a great weekend with friends! Bret and Megan and Bart and Rochelle got to come spend time at the river and we had the best time cutting loose!  We played yard games, hung out, but most of all relaxed and had some great laughs outside of work!!

Lines Creek Historical Trail

This weekend we went to the river and had a relaxing day on Saturday just chilling in the sun!
Today, Sunday, we had an amazing adventure up marble creek!

We followed the map up the mountain, Just about the time we were thinking about turning around we came to a big sign (the one we had been looking for for miles):

We thought it would be fun to go see all the sites but when we got there we realized it was a 3 mile hike, which turned into 4 I'm sure!!
We decided that Katelyn could do it and if not we would carry her the lat part of needed!
The weather was perfect... Cool, and a bit drizzly but nothing major and not hot for hiking!

At the beginning the kids fought over who got to carry the map... Not sure why we didn't get two for our sanity but they did eventually share!

We made it up the trail and saw some amazing sites from the old logging days of 1920! Crazy to think it's almost 100 years old!

We learned from the flier something new at all 15 stops on the trail!  This stop was old cabins down below us that the loggers would keep there horses!

Then we decided to climb the old train incline... We thought there was something at the top but heck... We didn't make it to the top! It was very steep and after we climbed as far as we could see on the stretch we gave up finding number nine... Only to find it later on the main trail! This section I'm sure added and extra mile to our hike of straight up hill! The old cables were still there from the old trains which was pretty cool to see!  You can see it in the middle of the picture below!

This is the old train engine that lays at rest along the old train route!

There were two old train trestles song the way that were falling apart but we're pretty amaizing to see!

This is a cable line from an old steam donkey!

The next two photos are looking up and down what the called the "short incline". Although the pictures done show it... This is a steep incline that seems to never end! Can't imagine an old train getting away from the men back then and piling up!

We all learned a lot and got a great hike in up in the hills around Marble Creek so much history up there!! Next time we plan to do a hike into one of the lakes up there!  We are very lucky to live here and times like today make me realize what we take for granted!!

On the way home we went over moon pass and got to drive through a few tunnels which the kids found pretty cool!  So much country back there! Trees and mountain views forever! Pretty amazing adventures in our state! Pretty sure Idaho is the best out there!!
